Inspiration Monday: Knitted Winter Hats
Hosted by Trish from Love, Laughter and a Touch of Insanity
It's June and 85 degrees outside so lets talk knit hats! Over the winter, I went through my yarn stash, sorting out bits and bobs. What pattern to knit with this yarn, what does this yarn want to be. Lots of decisions. I had been saving leftovers for hat projects. Since I plan on being tropical in 2017, now is the time to knit and wear wool hats.
This first one is made from merino wool, so it's nice and squishy. The pattern is called Tears of Bronze, so mine is Tears of Aqua Bronze. (Ravelry link to my project page).
This should be good for windy, cold days in January.
This second one is also made from wool. The burgundy yarn is leftover from a sweater and the blue from another hat I gave away. This pattern is also free and called Escargot. Mine is called the same. (Link to my Ravelry project page.)
Not as squishy or warm, but it will work for early fall, or late winter. Escargot came from a free online knitting publication called Knitty. If you decide to start knitting or are curious I urge you to check Knitty out.

Ooh, I've had Escargot queued for ages! Yours turned out well. The two hats I've knit for myself this spring/summer are Newsboy Hat Hannah — http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/newsboy-hat-hannah — and River Dreams Hat — http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/river-dreams-hat
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was pretty easy to follow. Would probably be better in thicker yarn. I've looked at the newsboy hat, but River dreams is new to me. The one colorwork hat I want to make is Selbu Modern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/selbu-modern I have yarn picked out and all :)
DeleteYou are so clever Jenny. I'm a bit of a beanie/scarf addict lol ... the merino wool one is such a beautiful colour. I've crocheted a few baby beanies for my granddaughter but nothing knitted. I think I remember how to cast on and I could probably knit a few rows but not sure I could follow a pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks sweetie! I prefer shawls to scarves, because they give me more variety. Hats are hit or miss for miss for me but when its super cold, i grab that hat!
Deletei'm sure you could pick up the knitting from a pattern pretty quickly. It's not that bad, and its exciting to see how it turns out. It's just yarn :)
The Escargot hat is adorable! I'm getting the urge to dust off my knitting needles :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Joann! just a little something and you'll be back at knitting in no time!
DeleteI love the pattern on the teal hat -- that's so cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim :)
DeleteJust realized I hadn't commented on this post yet!! Love the escargot...and the name is too funny (and appropriate). One of these days I'll learn how to knit!! One day...
ReplyDeleteBecause you were shocked I posted! The designer of that hat got that name perfectly. Maybe someday....
